Construction & Building Materials

Source compliant construction materials direct from China

China is the world's dominant producer of building materials, from aluminium extrusions and ceramic tiles to sanitaryware and insulated panels. Most of it reaches contractors through several layers of intermediary. Ériu Sourcing removes those layers, with compliance for your market checked at source before shipment.

Manufacturing Hub

Where construction & building materials is made in China

Foshan (ceramics/sanitaryware) • Henan (aluminium) • Zhongshan (lighting) • Guangdong (cladding)

Foshan produces the majority of China's exported ceramic and porcelain tiles and is the largest sanitaryware manufacturing cluster in the world. Henan Province is China's main aluminium extrusion hub, with capacity that supplies infrastructure projects abroad directly. Major exporters in both regions routinely supply test reports against European EN standards and other export markets' standards.

Compliance for your market

Compliance checked at the factory, not at your port

Ask about compliance documentation →

CE marking and Declarations of Performance for Europe, UK marking for the UK, and the standards your market requires elsewhere. Test reports are checked at the Chinese factory, not at customs. Products that do not meet your market's rules are not shipped.

Every order includes full compliance documentation. Goods that do not meet the standards for your market stay in China at the factory's cost, you do not pay freight on non-compliant products.

How it works

From your brief to goods landed at your door

01

Send a brief

Product name, quantity, quality grade, and target price. A photo or reference product is helpful. No commitment required to get a quote.

02

Factory identification

We identify and physically visit shortlisted construction & building materials factories in Foshan (ceramics/sanitaryware). Factory-gate pricing negotiated directly.

03

Pre-shipment QC

Finished goods inspected at the factory before the container is sealed. Compliance documentation verified. Failed goods stay in China.

04

Freight to your market

Sea, rail, air or express to your port or door, with the carrier schedule confirmed in your quote. Full documentation for customs clearance provided.

What buyers need to know

Sourcing construction & building materials from China, the full picture

Construction is a cost-sensitive business. Material price rises squeeze margins on fixed-price contracts. Chinese tiles, sanitaryware, aluminium systems and insulated panels offer a documented 35–55% saving versus builders' merchants, provided the compliance paperwork is right for the market they are going into.

Compliance for construction products: what contractors need to know

Compliance is the first question contractors and architects ask about Chinese materials. Every market sets its own rules. In the EU, construction products need CE marking under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), backed by a Declaration of Performance (DoP) that references the relevant harmonised European standard, for example EN 14411 for ceramic tiles, EN 14509 for insulated sandwich panels, or EN 755 for aluminium extrusions. The UK runs its own version of these rules. Other markets have their own standards and approval routes, and we confirm what applies to your project before ordering.

We check and collect the documents at the Chinese factory, before shipment. Products that cannot supply valid documents for your market are not ordered. That is very different from buying through a trading company and hoping the paperwork turns up with the goods.

Anti-dumping duties on Chinese construction materials

Some Chinese construction materials carry anti-dumping duties. In the EU these cover certain ceramic floor tiles and some aluminium profiles, and the position changes as the European Commission reviews its findings. Other markets run their own trade defence measures. We confirm the current position for each HS code in your market before you order, so there are no surprises at customs.

Duty, import tax and landed cost

Duty and VAT or GST depend on the HS code and your market. We quote the full landed cost for your country, including freight, duty and import tax, before you commit. For the US, tariffs on Chinese goods change often, so we quote the duty on the day you order. Our market pages for the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, the UAE and South Africa set out the rules.

Container economics for construction materials

Construction materials suit full container shipments. A 40ft container holds approximately 20,000–25,000 m² of ceramic tiles, approximately 15–20 tonnes of aluminium profiles, or a full bathroom package for 20–30 units. We plan the container load to get the most into each box and keep per-unit freight cost down.

Contractors typically save 35–55% on material costs compared with builders' merchants, even after import duty, sea freight and compliance checks.

Common questions

Construction & Building Materials, sourcing questions answered

Can you source compliant construction materials from China for my building projects?

Yes. We supply the documents your market requires, such as CE marking and Declarations of Performance for Europe, with test reports against the relevant standards. Compliance is checked at the Chinese factory before shipment. Products that do not meet your market's rules are not shipped.

What construction materials can be sourced directly from China?

Ériu Sourcing sources aluminium profiles and extrusions, ceramic and porcelain tiles, sanitaryware, commercial lighting, insulated sandwich panels, cladding systems, and construction hardware directly from manufacturers in Foshan, Henan, and Zhongshan.

How much do contractors save sourcing materials directly from China?

Contractors typically save 35–55% on material costs compared with builders' merchants or regional trade supply. A documented case study shows a construction contractor sourcing CE-compliant structural materials at 38% below the UK-quoted price for identical specification.

Are there anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese construction materials?

In some markets, yes. The EU applies anti-dumping duties to some Chinese tile and aluminium categories, and the position changes as the European Commission reviews its findings. Other markets run their own measures. We confirm the current position for each HS code in your market before you commit, so there are no unexpected customs costs.

What is a Declaration of Performance and do I need one for Chinese construction materials?

A Declaration of Performance (DoP) is a legally required document for construction products placed on the EU market under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). It confirms the product meets the relevant harmonised European standard, and without one the product cannot legally be used on a building site in the EU. The UK has its own equivalent rules, and other markets use different approval routes. We tell you what your market needs and supply DoPs for EU-bound orders.

Can you source construction materials in full container loads from China?

Yes. Full 20ft and 40ft container loads are the standard and most cost-effective format. A 40ft container holds approximately 20,000–25,000 m² of ceramic tiles or 15–20 tonnes of aluminium profiles. We plan each load to get the most into the container and keep per-unit freight cost down.

Client experience

What buyers say about sourcing construction & building materials with us

We've been working with Ériu and Noel for a number of years now to source building materials for large commercial and residential projects here in Australia. I visit China twice a year to see the factories, and besides that Noel and his team look after everything else all year round. Highly recommended.

George S. Building materials importer · Sydney, Australia

Before Brexit we were buying our high-end bathrooms from wholesalers in the UK, but then needed to shift our supply base. Ériu helped us find some amazing products at 30–40% less than we had previously been paying, and helped with every step including the shipping by sea to Ireland. Great company to work with.

Andy D. Bathroom retailer · Limerick City, Ireland

We've been in the modular cabin building business for over 30 years, and were delighted to add Ériu as a supplier 10 years ago. They supply top-quality, certified materials and components. Thanks.
