Construction Machinery

Construction machinery from China for contractors and rental fleets

China is now a central player in the global construction machinery market. Between January and August 2024 alone, Chinese OEMs sold roughly 131,550 excavators, and around half were exported. From Zhengzhou and the wider Henan industrial base, Ériu Sourcing helps contractors and rental fleets buy cost-effective machines. We also handle the parts that decide whether it works: market compliance, engine emissions approval and hydraulic quality.

Where construction machinery is made in China

Zhengzhou + Henan concrete-machinery cluster + coastal OEM bases

Henan is a long-standing base for concrete machinery, batching plants and aggregate-processing equipment. The Xingyang district near Zhengzhou is a recognised cluster with long-established makers. Excavators and loaders are mostly built in other clusters (Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu), and we work with factories there directly. Working from Zhengzhou lets us visit concrete-equipment factories on our doorstep, reach the machine OEMs quickly, and route finished equipment through one of China's national rail-air logistics hubs, by sea, rail or air depending on your market.

Compliance for your market

Compliance checked at the factory, not at your port

Ask about compliance documentation →

Every market sets its own rules for machinery and engines. For the EU, machines must carry CE marking under the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), with risk assessment, technical file, EC Declaration of Conformity and the mark itself, and engines need Stage V approval under Regulation (EU) 2016/1628 with type-approval documents. Other markets have their own safety and emissions rules, and we check the machine and engine approvals against the standards your market requires. We verify this at the factory rather than accept a sticker at face value, and we avoid grey machines built only for other markets. You remain responsible for placing the machine on your market and for in-service compliance.

Every order includes full compliance documentation. Goods that do not meet the standards for your market stay in China at the factory's cost, you do not pay freight on non-compliant products.

What buyers need to know

Sourcing construction machinery from China, the full picture

We focus on compact and mid-range equipment that ships well and has clear use cases on sites worldwide. These are the machines Chinese OEMs already export in volume, more and more with cleaner engines and proper documents. The opportunity is a lower capex per machine, as long as compliance, reliability and support are handled properly rather than assumed.

Why Chinese machinery is on buyers' radars

The scale is hard to ignore. In August 2024, Chinese manufacturers sold about 14,647 excavators, of which 7,953 were exported, up nearly 7% year on year. Loaders showed even stronger export momentum: in July 2024, exports rose more than 30% year on year. Compact machines are the fastest-growing segment globally. That leaves real room for carefully vetted alternative OEMs, as long as compliance and support stack up.

What the equipment actually costs

Pricing depends on configuration, so treat headline figures as indicative until a factory quotes against your spec. As a directional example for a European site in the 3–5 tonne mini-excavator class: a well-known Western-OEM machine might land and be prepped at €65,000–€80,000, while a vetted Chinese machine with a Stage V engine and CE documents might land in the €40,000–€55,000 band including freight and duties, depending on spec and volume. Where reliability, parts and residual values hold up, that gap is a five-figure capex saving per machine. The number that matters is the firm landed cost for your country, and the honest comparison is total cost of ownership, not the sticker.

Duty and VAT or GST depend on the product code and your market. We quote the landed cost, including freight, duty and import tax, for your country. For the US, tariffs change often, so we quote the duty on the day you order.

Compliance is the whole game

Bringing machinery into any market is not a buy-and-ship exercise. In the EU, the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) requires a risk assessment, conformity with harmonised EN/ISO standards, a technical file, an EC Declaration of Conformity and the CE mark before a machine is placed on the market. Stage V (Regulation (EU) 2016/1628) sets strict particulate and emission limits for engines in non-road mobile machinery across power bands from under 19 kW to over 560 kW. Other markets have their own safety and emissions rules. A machine sourced from China must arrive with the engine approval and documents your market requires, or go through proper engineering validation and certification. We work backwards from those requirements on every project.

Why Henan and Zhengzhou matter

Henan, and the Xingyang cluster near Zhengzhou in particular, is a long-standing home for concrete machinery, batching plants and aggregate equipment. The excavators and loaders are built elsewhere, but our Zhengzhou base lets us visit the concrete-equipment factories directly, reach the machine OEMs quickly, and route finished machines through a genuine rail-air logistics hub. The risk that catches importers out: hydraulics and structure

Beyond paperwork, the gap between a good machine and a problem one is usually in the hydraulics and the steel: pump, valve and cylinder quality, hose and seal ratings, weld penetration and finish, and reinforcement at the boom, arm and undercarriage. Some Chinese OEMs run strong QA and use recognised hydraulic suppliers. Others cut corners. Telling them apart is the on-the-ground work we do before you commit to a fleet.

Share your current or planned machinery needs. We will outline one or two realistic sourcing paths from Henan and nearby clusters, with the compliance route for your market, an honest cost band and a sensible pilot plan.

Common questions

Construction Machinery, sourcing questions answered

What construction machinery can you source from China?

We focus on compact and mid-range equipment with clear use cases: mini and mid excavators (1–3t micro/mini, 3–8t compact, up to ~20t mid), compact wheel loaders and skid steers, concrete equipment (mobile and drum mixers, mixer trucks, concrete pumps and batching plants from Henan makers), and compaction and site machinery such as plate compactors, small rollers and site dumpers. Chinese OEMs already export these in real volume, and compliant engine and documentation options exist.

How much can I save sourcing machinery from China?

As a directional example for a European site, a vetted Chinese machine in the 3–5 tonne class with a Stage V engine and CE documents might land in the €40,000–€55,000 band, against €65,000–€80,000 for a comparable Western-OEM machine. That is roughly a 20–40% capex gap, depending on spec and volume. Landed cost in other markets depends on freight, duty and import tax, so we quote it for your country. It only counts if reliability, parts and residual values hold up, so we compare on total cost of ownership against your real duty cycle.

Will the machines meet the safety and emissions rules in my market?

They have to. For the EU, any machine needs CE marking under the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), with risk assessment, technical file, EC Declaration of Conformity and the mark, and engines need Stage V approval under Regulation (EU) 2016/1628 with type-approval documents. Other markets set their own rules, and we check the machine against the standards your market requires. We verify this at the factory against the exact configuration and avoid grey machines built only for other markets. Responsibility for placing the machine on the market stays with the importer.

How do you protect against poor hydraulics and weak structures?

This is where machines are won or lost, so it is core to the work. A qualified reviewer checks hydraulic schematics and component specs (pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, seals) and inspects structural welds, steel grades and reinforcement at the boom, arm and undercarriage. We favour OEMs with documented QA and recognised hydraulic suppliers, and we run pilot units with independent inspection and field testing before any fleet order.

How does a machinery sourcing project run end to end?

We define the use case and map the rules for your market (power band, engine emissions approval, safety category, safety functions). We shortlist 2–3 OEMs with a genuine export track record and compliant or configurable machines, and compare specs, engine approvals, warranties and pricing like for like. Then we arrange pilot units with third-party inspection and field testing, structure fleet pricing, parts support and training, and oversee production, pre-shipment QC and logistics. Each batch typically takes 8–16 weeks depending on configuration and freight mode.
